Every child's reading journey follows these stages. The guide helps you identify where your child is and what to focus on.
Recognizes some letters but can't sound them out yet. Enjoys being read to but doesn't try to read independently.
Ages 3-5 typically
Knows letter sounds and is starting to blend them together. Can sound out simple words like c-a-t but it takes effort.
Ages 4-6 typically
Reads simple sentences but struggles with unfamiliar words. Getting more confident but still needs support with new text.
Ages 5-7 typically
Reads independently but slowly. Can decode most words but needs practice to build speed and confidence with longer text.
Ages 6-10 typically
